The Auland Marchfeld Asparagus

Delicious asparagus fresh from harvest from Auland

Festal vegetable with long tradition

Asparagus is one of the oldest sorts of vegetables.
It was already known in China and Egypt as far back as 5 000 years ago.
The ancient Greek and Roman people regarded asparagus as a delicacy as well as a healing plant. In medieval times however, it was considered as a medicine rather than a foodstuff.

Asparagus is not only a food delight but is one of the vegetables with least calories. The asparagus features a wonderful flavor and digestibility and is therefore optimal for numerous tasty dishes. Due to its high content of vitamins and minerals is asparagus a valid feast vegetable. Asparagus requires an intensive care not only during harvest, which begins around April and ends around the middle of June. It can be first harvested only after 3 years.

The Danube deposits of Marchfeld are ideal for planting this special vegetable preferring sandy soil.
